Once the push-bottom engine start is fired up, there are twin 1.8L High Output 4-cylinder 4-stroke Yamaha Marine engines that rumble to life. Three-blade impellers made from stainless steel replete with 155 mm high-pressure pumps help propel the ship over the water smoothly and allow the 242 Limited S E-Series to run up to a top speed of 50.3 mph @ 7,550 RPM and running at 23.3 GPH., while peak fuel efficiency was achieved at 32.2 mph @ 5,500 RPM at a rate of 9.7 GPH and giving a range of 149 very calm and relaxed miles. This is also in part due to the automatic RPM-sync twin binnacle throttle control that works with Yamaha’s Quiet Cruise to help reduce noise, vibration and harshness.
Settle in under the ginormous Bimini top, which also hides two solar panels that help keep the batteries charged, and you’re going to be treated to a wonderful ride to wherever you’re going. And for a retail price of only $65,999, the Yamaha 242 S E-Series is a relative bargain as far as boats go. It isn’t everyday that Yamaha unveils a new flagship, but when they do, they certainly make it memorable.
